Nugent Richard Eid Cup unites the community promoting Peace, contributing to the community, healthy mind and healthy bodies

The renamed Nugent Richard Eid Cup 2015 took place yesterday, Saturday 25th July. Over 350 children, young people and families participated in the 10th anniversary of our local, regional, national and now internationally acclaimed initiative that was set up as a positive reaction to the London 7/7 bombings.

Just wanted to say thank you for having us at the cup, it was a really great day (great speech by the way!). We did a lot of mingling and it was great to have all my officers chatting with young building bridged… it makes such a difference being out of uniform most of the kids didn’t know we were police until it came out in the conversations and the reactions we got were all positive, I think it shows that we are not just uniforms and similarly that we can learn a lot from young people too.

I did try to pop over to say bye but you were in the middle of a interview with a tv camera so I didn’t want to interrupt.

This years event was kicked off by our Sporting Icon Colin Nell, who done a showpiece 3 min skills set and spoke to the gathered masses about his career and his parallel growth and success with that of Salaam Peace. Colin’s portfolio includes the Timbaland Video “the way I are,” Pepsi advert in India with Sharokh Khan and soon to be released T-Mobile marketing campaign. Despite all this success Colin remains humble and always supports Salaam Peace once or twice a year.

Keynote speakers:

  • Imam Tayib – Contributing to the community, Islamic and shared values, engaging in positive activities and being law abiding citizens. Healthy mind, healthy spirit and healthy body is what Islam has highlighted from the days of the Prophet.
  • Erkan Ozerek  – Product of Salaam Peace, now a Maths Teacher @ Lammas, has been with us since the age of 9, went to Lammas Shool, and then onto Uni achieving a 1st class degree and now contributing to the school and the community.
  • Cllr Ahsan Khan – Cabinet Lead WF for Health and Well-Being led the tribute to Nugent Richards and why after 25 years contribution to the communities in WF and East London he deserved recognition.
  • Mayor Saima Mahmud – Spoke of the work of Salaam Peace in building communities and support her key agenda of community cohesion and multi-faith work.
  • Steve Davies – our long time friend and colleague from Arsenal in the community kindly gave Salaam Peace staff Ausrine, Azi, Nugent and Neil Bharat (Lammas) tickets for the Emirates cup as well as a recent opportunity for myself and the staff/volunteers team to play at the newly built Hub next to the Arsenal stadium. Steve has also given 6 lucky Salaam Peace staff/volunteers/participants the opportunity to attend the members day on Tuesday 28th July @ the Emirates Stadium to see the first team train on the pitch.
